Sovereign Harbour Community
Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour is a large marina, residential and retail
development, officially started in 1993. Most of the construction is now
finished, whilst a few areas still await final development.
There is an outer tidal harbour and four inner marina basins. Accessible
through two high capacity locks, the marina provides moorings for
pleasure craft and commercial fishing boats. The marina facilities are
managed by
Premier Marinas
.
There is a RNLI lifeboat station near the locks and Eastbourne's all
weather lifeboat the
Royal Thames
is berthed in the outer harbour.
The Waterfront
area of the marina contains cafes, bars, restaurants and
a chippy.
The harbours are surrounded by areas of residential houses and flats
connected by roads, walkways, cycle routes and bridges.
There is also a large shopping complex and a multi-screen cinema.
